About me
Hello! My name is Andy Spittle, and I’m a children’s picture book illustrator and author passionate about telling meaningful, imaginative stories through my colourful and textural artwork.
My creative goal is to inspire and engage young readers, encouraging curiosity, empathy, and self-expression through the stories I help bring to life. I believe picture books are a powerful portal to imagination, and I’m committed to creating work that resonates with both children and the adults who read with them.
I specialise in mixed media illustration, blending watercolour and acrylic with fine details in ink and pencil. This tactile approach allows me to create layered, textured artwork that supports my storytelling with warmth, emotion, and depth. In addition to traditional media, I’m also proficient in digital media, including Adobe Creative Suite and Procreate. This has enabled me to develop a flexible and adaptable working process tailored to a range of publishing needs.
My passion for illustration has been lifelong and continues to evolve with every project. I’ve developed my craft through formal education and independent study, and I’m always exploring new ways to strengthen my voice as both an illustrator and storyteller.
Wait, there’s more?
I am a member of the Severn Sketch Club in Shropshire and an active part of The Good Ship Illustration community, where I’ve completed multiple professional development courses.
Outside of illustration, my creativity extends into many areas of life. From cooking to music and film, all of which inspire my work. I’m deeply motivated by emotional storytelling and find joy in creating narratives that connect with children on a personal level. My favourite stories highlight the beauty of resilience, kindness, and making the most of life. These aforementioned values are ones that I aim to reflect in the picture books I create.
